16 silverado 1500 tuned, throwing cam codes constantly idle fluctuates at idle

throwing cam over advanced code. afr code. Its also fluctuating rpm when i put the truck in park, or start it while its warm...

I paid a tuner to get my truck right after some engine work.. Truck is mechanically perfect, i think, and runs pretty good, all im getting is excuses from the tuner, like " its because the cam phaser" or you have an exhaust leak". I spent 2 days going over everything, no leaks at all, nothing out of place etc.. installed new plugs and wires while i was in there.. what am i missing in the editor? Variable Camshaft section Has been adjusted.. I have a 4* phaser limiter, what should the movement be set to, so i can figure this issue out? Camshaft over advance code, causes incorrect afr code as well.. I refuse to turn off any codes in the dtc section.. id love to learn, instead of just receiving answers. If someone could point me in the right direction on how the variable cam tuning works or is there another section im missing?

Post the stock tune.

Cam codes most likely because the target cam angles are outside of the threshold of the physical limiter.The hunting idle could also be the virtual torque tables/vve tables that need some work.

Cam position over advanced is just that, its over advanced. As much as you want to belive that the timing is right, its not. Its likely off one tooth. Read cam position live and i bet it shows advance when it should be at zero

Also has a lot to do with the oil - had some where the oil was too thin causing the code to set - had to rework the oil weighting/control tables and then also set highest target cam position a couple under max allowed. This is why I said to post the stock tune - you can put the current tunes cam only settings into the stock and post that - don't care about the tune itself. Post a log with cam positions, spark and torque at idle too.

It can honestly be the cam off or settings - as pointed out should be 0 at idle - if not then something isn't mechanically right.... These things will only idle at 0 pretty much no matter the settings.

Torque model has to be right for idle, but not only that the torque controls (adaptives, reserve, decel and external load) all have to be right too. You can make a cammed engine idle with OE torque controls and numbers. Takes time to get that right combo though...

I'm having the same issue with my 2015 6.2 silverado. The cam LSA is 113+8. Should my base advance be set at 8?

Mine was tuned for MAF only, once i got hp tuners i had to go in and reset all of my VVE and VT tables to stock, then make all of the preliminary adjustments to get it to crank and idle to start tuning dynamic airflow. The first week was sucked ***. I would make a change in the morning, try to data log on the drive to work, and would get a toss up between the engine dying when coming to a stop or going into limp mode. My saving grace was having that base tune i could upload back in on side of the rode, and make it to my destination.

Have you looked into your injection timing tables? Mine was off after I put my cam in so bad i would get dizzy idling at a stop light. I'm slowly working on adjusting small increments at a time since i'm trying to street tune until i can get dyno time.

Your base advance should be 0 degrees. You can view the cam position error in HP Tuners. It should be 0-1 degree.

this is a quick log of it now dying when coming to a stop...

Cylinder 5 has an issue-nearly a dead miss most of the time. These things do have injector problems and are cheap enough to get whole sets now. I would check plugs and wires first. It's going into open loop and getting stuck there for what ever reason then running extremely lean. Torque model and adaptives are a little off, but those are the main things I noticed / glanced at...

took the truck out today, it was running fine. all of a sudden, shuts down red light in gear, started fine, as soon as it went back into gear it died.. no dtc at all.. about to burn it... jk

brand new plugs and ac delco wires. i will look into injectors

i thought cyl 5 was a little weird but tuner never mentioned anything..

How do you not notice a dead miss or it getting stuck in open loop? Also noticed no variable cam timing - losing out there...

If you think there is something wrong with the truck let me know. I will make sure to take care of it.. i was very meticulous when putting it together.. but im not afraid to wrench so ill pull it back out in a heart beat and go over everything.. could an injector seal be an issue?

Neither of the last 2 attachments are showing as valid addresses.

Just make sure of the basics - you have spark at the tip of the plug, valves are opening and closing, good compression compared to a neighboring cylinder, no vacuum leaks - then it's most likely an injector. You can get whole sets from ebay pretty cheap. Engine will run different though - just letting you know cause a tune developed on different engines all having worn injectors will reveal a lot with new injectors on these engines. Unless the seal is blocking the hole I doubt it would cause a dead miss.

It has a 2 degree error at one point where it goes back into closed loop.

Fix the misfire and it should fix the closed loop issue as it looks like this is causing the problem - P219A Chevrolet Code - Fuel Trim Cylinder Balance Bank 1 - caused by a cylinder to cylinder fuel imbalance

Once the fueling issue is fixed it looks like you'll need to fix fuel trims - whole engine looks lean. Most likely didn't have the density table dialed in and adjustments were made at hot temps throwing off the normal operating temps.
