How extensive is the scanning feature?

I currently own an AutoTap scanner. It let's me monitor pretty much anything I want. How does VCM Suite scanning abilities compair to the AutoTap?

The reason I'm asking is because I might get rid of my AutoTap if the scanning features are comparable.

I was reading that each software copy is locked to its cable. Does that statement include the scanning features? As I mentioned above, will I want to ditch my AutoTap?

The scanner is not vehicle type locked so you can scan other vehicles as well! :)
