Column lock disable
I searched and only found two threads on column lock and they were for conversions. Since column lock is a big issue on Corvettes would it make sense to disable column lock and up the fuel cut off to 255 mph? I had a column lock issue and the car would die at 2 mph, I dont ever want to deal with this again. The recall has been done on my 1997 A4 Corvette and the locking plate was removed. Any benefit?

ONLY if you have the column lock completely disabled in the car.
If column lock works at all DO NOT disable it in software as you could end up plowing into something if you do get a column lock issue while driving.

Thanks, my column lock has no locking ability. I appreciate the response, theres not much discussion on it.

Ok. Glad I could help. However I don't think it will stop the "Service Column Lock" message on the DIC as that is part of the BCM & IPC.
-
So there is not a way to turn off the message code or disable the dtc?
-
Not without BCM programming which we don't have.

This is from the dead i know but has anyone got past the column lock message? My column is no longer locked but the message is agravating as I love to use my display to tell me how much gas im saving and other messages. This particular message does not go away no matter what so you cant get to the other messages.

BCM would require reprogramming to solve this issue. HPT doesn't re-program the BCM though. Tech2 may be your only resource.

Why not just build your own column lock bypass relay and install it to get rid of the problem?
You can find the build sheet/schematics here.
